Secret Pain

Oh if you could only see the pain she carries.

Scars like canyons.

So deep and vast.

It drowns the echo of true love.

She was so smart they say. So talented. So loving. So loyal.

They had no idea of the pain she carried.

She liked it like that. That is what she told herself.

She liked it like that. She was very private. They told themselves.

If they had only known.

She wanted to talk but no one listened.

She wanted help but no one offered it.

She asked questions no one cared to answer.

A flame without oxygen dies.

Hope without reason does also.

Now she rests in a beautiful garden surrounded by friends who care.

Surrounded by friends who know.

I never knew they say.

I never dared to ask.
